“Beauty sleep” sounds like a cliché, but your night-time patterns really do show on your face. While you rest, your body repairs damage from the day, and your skin is part of that process. Regular poor sleep often shows up as dullness, puffiness and pronounced under-eye circles.
Staying up late under harsh screens can delay melatonin release, the hormone that supports sleep and nighttime repair. Going to bed with a full face of makeup blocks pores and can trigger breakouts or irritation. Dehydration from too much late caffeine or alcohol makes fine lines and dryness more obvious the next morning.
You don’t need a perfect bedtime ritual, but a few tweaks help. Try to keep a roughly consistent sleep schedule, even on weekends. Give your skin a quick cleanse and moisturise routine before bed, no matter how tired you are.
Sleeping on clean pillowcases and, if possible, on your back can reduce some friction-related creasing. Keeping a glass of water by your bed and drinking enough throughout the day also supports skin from the inside.
You can’t “cheat” sleep forever with products. A good night’s rest is still one of the simplest, most affordable beauty tools you have.
